A chiudere il Boxing Day di Championship, ci sarà Stoke – Leeds ovvero una partita che coinvolgerà, rispettivamente, una squadra delusa dalla classifica attuale (che comunque rispecchia le ultime annate) e una delle principali favorite per la promozione in Premier League. Lo Stoke che terminerà in casa il suo girone d’andata, dunque, è tra le insoddisfatte e, più concretamente, la peggiore per rendimento nelle ultime cinque partite insieme a Oxford United e Plymouth. Rispetto a queste due compagini, che sono le ultime in graduatoria, lo Stoke ha quattro punti in più ma questo spaccato fa chiaramente suonare l’allarme in casa Potters specie prima di questa improba partita.

Il Leeds che arriverà a Stoke on Trent, invece, sta andando forte, così come nell’auspicio di club e tifosi che, sul finale della scorsa stagione, hanno dovuto subire la cocente delusione della finale playoff persa a Wembley contro il Southampton e che, sull’inizio di questa, anche se in tono diverso, ne hanno avuta un’altra, ovvero l'eliminazione in Carabao Cup per mano del Middlesbrough (0-3). Quando però la Championship è entrata nel vivo, gli Whites hanno fatto di conseguenza e ora, pur senza un unico goleador ma con un bel gioco di squadra, stanno performando molto bene e, per la partita di Giovedì, partiranno con i favori del pronostico.
