L'Everton di Carlo Ancelotti e il Tottenham di José Mourinho si trovano di fronte per la seconda volta in stagione dopo che il 13 settembre scorso, sul campo degli Spurs, fu l'Everton ad imporsi in campionato per 0-1. Stavolta in palio c'è l'accesso ai quarti di finale di FA Cup. I Toffees sono reduci dal pirotecnico 3-3 di campionato in cui hanno sempre inseguito il Manchester United e nel turno precedente di FA Cup avevano superato in casa lo Sheffield Wednesday per 3-0. Proprio l'ultima di campionato ha ridato il sorriso al Tottenham che aveva perso le tre precedenti partite: il 2-0 interno è arrivato contro il WBA. Nel sedicesimo di finale di FA Cup, invece, gli Spurs avevano superato fuoricasa il Wycombe Wanderers per 1-4.
