La stagione del Manchester United era partita con ben altre ambizioni, certificato anche dagli arrivi di gente come Pogba e Ibrahimovic, che avrebbero dovuto rilanciare i Red Devils ad altissimi livelli. Non è quello che è accaduto in Premiership dove la squadra di Mourinho non è mai riuscita ad entrare nel circolo ristretto delle concorrenti al titolo. Ora l'obiettivo primario è quello di vincere l'Europa League e strappare un posto per la prossima Champions, ma anche quello di terminare al meglio il campionato, dignitosamente e magari anche qualcosa di più. Per farlo c'è da superare un Southampton anch'esso praticamente fuori da tutti i giochi, il cui unico obiettivo è quello di fare bella figura e accumulare esperienza per preparare al meglio già la prossima stagione.
