Il Newcastle fa visita al Blackburn all’Ewood Park martedì sera, per gli ottavi di finale di FA Cup, con match in gara unica. Per i Magpies si tratta di una grande occasione perché i sorteggi li hanno messi contro una squadra di categoria inferiore, che non vive neanche un momento positivo. La squadra allenata da Eddie Howe sta però andando a fasi alterne ed è reduce da un pesante 4-1 subito in Premier League dall’Arsenal, anche se si tratta dell’unica sconfitta nelle ultime sei gare ufficiali. Nei turni precedenti il Newcastle ha superato senza troppi problemi Sunderland e Fulham, mantenendo in entrambi i casi la porta inviolata. Il Blackburn vive invece una fase delicata in Championship e neanche l’arrivo di John Eustace in panchina sembra aver cambiato le cose. I Rovers, reduci da quattro partite senza vittoria, si trovano nella parte destra della classifica e ora non sono neanche troppo lontani dalla zona retrocessione, per cui il loro focus ora deve essere sul campionato. I padroni di casa proveranno comunque l’impresa dopo aver superato in gran scioltezza sia il Cambridge che il Wrexham. Le due squadre non si affrontano dal 2020, quando al secondo turno di Carabao Cup ebbe la meglio il Newcastle.
